Letter: "Stop the Beltway" picnic

I attended the third annual "Stop the Beltway" picnic Aug. 29. I saw some familiar faces but no Kendall County Board members.

The current Kane County Board president gave a very good speech on the proposed beltway. After listening to the reasons why the beltway is so wrong, I can only surmise that the only reason to build a beltway is because the Speaker of the House wants it. The Kane County Board president mentioned that Atlanta got a similar project from Newt Gingrich when he was speaker of the house.

The planners from Atlanta had one suggestion. Fight it! They are still dealing with problems caused by Newt Gingrich's road.

If the Speaker wanted to help out his home district, he could gotten us some money for local roads. The Wikaduke looks like a great plan. It is actually in an area of high growth and it utilizes existing roads. But it will not help alleviate the congestion in the Yorkville-Oswego area.

We need Route 47 widened and another north-south road east of Sugar Grove before Montgomery and Yorkville fill it with houses.
