The public will get its first look next month at how well the potential Prairie Parkway plans meet the needs for
a new road.
On May 10, the Illinois Department of Transportation will hold the first public information meeting from 5:30 to
8 p.m. at John Shields Elementary School, 85 S. Main St., Sugar Grove.
At 6:30 that evening, there will be a public question-and-answer session that will evaluate how well several parkway
alternatives will address regional transportation needs.
A second information session will be held at the same time the next night at White Oak Elementary School in Morris.
The parkway is a proposed hightway that would connect Interstates 80 and 88, with the goal of reducing local traffic
congestion. At a meeting in June 2004, the public was asked to draw potential roads on maps and give suggestions
for alternatives to the road.
Now, IDOT is ready to unveil the next phase in the project and outline the pros and cons of the remedies drawn
from the many suggestions. The agency hopes to address how the different plans will improve regional mobility,
address local system deficiencies, improve access from the study area to regional jobs and improve safety.
IDOT is scheduled to preview the plans for the media on Thursday.
