Prairie Parkway scorned by voters
By Elisabeth Kilpatrick
Voters in Kendall County's Fox, Lisbon and Seward townships made no
secret of their disdain for the Prairie Parkway project Tuesday.
With all precincts reporting, 72 percent of Lisbon voters, 65 percent
of Fox voters and 58 percent of Seward voters said they oppose the
construction of the proposed $1 billion freeway.
The results echo the sentiments of Kane County's Kaneville and Big Rock
township voters, who rejected the project in a referendum vote last
April.
The three Kendall County township referendum votes are not binding, but
Jan Strasma of parkway opposition group Citizens Against the Sprawlway,
said he hoped the results would send a strong message to state and
federal officials about what the area wants.
"The areas that are affected the most don't want it," he said.
