Michael George Butler 1943-2022

Michael "Mike" G. Butler passed away Oct. 12, 2022, at Banner Gateway Medical Center, Mesa, Ariz. 

He was born in Seattle, Wash., on Dec. 1, 1943, the son of Basil Thomas and Alice (Anderson) Butler, the third of twelve children. Mike married Lynn Godin on Oct. 3, 1964, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kankakee. 

Mike graduated from Kankakee High School in 1962.  He enlisted in the U.S, Navy and served on the U.S. Salamonie as an interior communications tech until 1966. Upon leaving the Navy, he went to work in Kankakee for Illinois Bell (AT&T) where he worked in several different capacities. He always loved the work he did and excelled in all areas to which he was assigned. He retired in 2002. Mike and his wife moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 2019. 

Preceding him in death were his parents; and three sisters, Bernadette, in infancy, and Regina Johnson and Patricia Butler.

Surviving are his wife and two children, Laura Pepin, of Aroma Park, and David Butler, of Mesa, Ariz.; as well as seven grandchildren, Tyler Butler, Brice Butler, Hayden Butler, Devon Renchen, Stephanie Syroki, Samantha Pepin and Erin; plus five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are eight siblings, James (Gail) Butler, of Sycamore, Mary (Craig) Bonda, of Winfield, Evelyn Cordin, of Geneva, Rita Butler, of Glen Ellyn, Thomas (Gwen) Butler, of Rockford, Joseph (Nancy) Butler, of Griffin, Ga., Donna (David) Hiliker, of Sun City, Ariz., and Richard (Susan) Butler, of St. Louis, Mo.; along with several nieces and nephews. 

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Mass for Mike will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, West Campus, Kankakee. Inurnment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Bourbonnais.
