Larry Laemonn Brewster 1944-2025

Quincy, IL - Larry Laemonn Brewster, 80 of Kankakee, IL passed on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 in Quincy, IL. Visitation will be on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 9 am until the 11 am Funeral Services at the Second Baptist Church, Kankakee.

Larry graduated from Kankakee High School in 1962. After graduating from high school, he was inducted into the military and served in the US Army for four years. His tour of duty was in Vietnam. Upon returning home, he worked at A.O. Smith and later Sun Chemical Corporation until he retired in 2005.

Larry Brewster, aka LB, to his family and friends, was introduced to a young teacher, Sonja Taylor, from Gary, Indiana who was working in the Kankakee School District. After a few years later, they were united in holy matrimony September 1985. To this union, their son, Julian, was born. Larry's family and friends might describe him as "a man for all seasons". His gentle mannerisms, kindness, deep concern and caring for his family and friends, fun-loving, and yet stern in some matters. He had a strong work ethic and did not believe in taking off from work.

After he retired, he engaged in two of his favorite activities, manicuring his lawn and detailing the family cars. LB also spent many hours cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Chicago Bulls and Bears. Larry and Sonja enjoyed traveling to various states to visit family and friends and seek out sites of interest.

Larry Brewster will live on in the hearts of those who love him: his wife, Sonja, sons Larry Jr. and Julian, daughter, Raquel Mosley, sisters Valerie Brewster and Rhondalyn (Greg) Wilson, brother Danny Brewster, special niece, Zharmell Brewster, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
