Lakewood,
Colorado - Karon Sue Maehl, 79, passed away on November 10,
2024 at Applewood Our Home in Lakewood, Colorado.
She
was the daughter of Aaron R. LaReau and Alberta M. (Greenburg)
LaReau. Karon was a 1962 graduate of Kankakee High School. She
went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois
University and a master's degree from Governor's State
University and was a former teacher and guidance counselor for
many years in Chicago Heights, Tinley Park, Joliet, and
Kankakee.
Karon
was active in Kankakee Valley theater as an actor and singer.
She loved watching movies and was especially fond of her dog.
Never afraid of any challenge, Karon was a persevering problem
solver who loved helping others in any way she could,
especially her family, her friends, and her students.
Preceding
her in death were both of her parents, her stepfather Harold
Kunde, and stepsisters Carol Dubie and Judith Lindquist.
Surviving
is her son, Joshua Maehl (Susan) and grandson, lan Maehl,
sisters Mary Smith (Bill) and Connie Kunde, brothers Michael
LaReau (Janet), and Paul Kunde, as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Cremation
rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held
on Saturday, June 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Trinity United
Methodist Church at 936 S. Third Ave. in Kankakee, Illinois.
