George “Wally” Malmer, 69, of Bradley, passed away after a
long courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving
family on Wednesday (Aug. 7, 2013) at the University of
Chicago Hospital.
He was born Jan. 30, 1944, in Chicago, the son of William
and Barbara Carlson Malmer. Mr. Malmer had worked at Bunge
Oil for 49 years. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren
immensely. He took pleasure in watching his grandchildren’s
soccer games. He enjoyed the good times with his Friday
night lively card games and enjoyed being with his breakfast
club buddies. He was definitely a diehard Chicago Cubs and
Chicago Blackhawks fan.
He was the beloved husband of the former Sandy Ravens, whom
he married Oct. 23, 1963, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic
Church, of Bradley; the loving father of Kirk (Tammy)
Malmer, of Bourbonnais, and Erick Malmer, of Bradley;
dearest grandfather of Christine Malmer and her friend,
Matt, and Casey Malmer and her friend, Justin. He is also
survived by his best friends, Abby and Lexus. George is also
survived by his wonderful sister, Diane (Wayne) Heim, of
Wisconsin; brother, Bill Malmer, of Texas; several
sistersin-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews;
and his mother-in-law, Martha Ravens, of Joliet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law,
Sharon Malmer; and father-in-law, Edward Ravens.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be from
4 p.m. Monday until the 7 p.m. services at the Clancy-Gernon
Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
