Daniel Lewis Bauer 1944-2023

CHANDLER AZ - Dr. Daniel Lewis Bauer, 78, of Chandler, AZ, passed away on October 17, 2023 from metastatic disease, originating in the parotid gland. He was born on December 13, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, Cook County. He was raised in Kankakee, Illinois. He was a kind sensitive, and compassionate man who always showed concern and care for others. He had a unique and profound perspective, which stemmed from his intellect and deep thinking nature. He was a wordsmith with a clever sense of humor.


Dan is survived by his wife Kimberly Bauer, son Alexander Thomas Bauer, daughter-in-law Krystalyn Bauer, and cherished grandchildren Jaxon Hayes, Oliver Thomas, and Finley Rosamond. He was beloved by his in laws. He was preceded in death by his father, August Alban Bauer in 1957, his mother, Rosamond Norris Huff Bauer around 1982, and his daughter, Emily Rosamond Bauer in 2003.


Dan graduated from Kankakee High School in 1962. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Denison University in 1966 and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Northwestern Medical School in 1970. After completing his education, Dan served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1973 at UDorn Royal Thailand Air Force Base, with the 432 Division.


Following his military service, Dan embarked on a successful career. He worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in 1970-71, Williams Air Force Base in 1971, and Arizona State University, Student Health from 1973 to 1978. He then dedicated himself to a solo general practice. For over three decades, he was deeply loved and appreciated by his patients for his exceptional care: retiring in 2011. Dr. Bauer's commitment and expertise earned him the Patient's Choice Award from 2008 to 2010.


In his personal life, Dan found solace and strength through his faith. In 1976, after reading a letter from Bill Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended Arizona Community Church in Tempe, Arizona, where he worshipped and found community.


Dan had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He had a passion for collecting and enjoyed creating displays for his collections using mixed media. He was an artist that loved bright colors and painting with acrylics. For several years he enjoyed motorcycling on his Harley named "Loretta." Additionally, he excelled in racket sports such as tennis, handball, and racquetball. Every week, he would gather with his friend Bill for friendly competitions in darts, bocce ball, or shuffleboard. Dan enjoyed playing cards with his wife and friends. He was a member of a men's Bible study and a Book Club, coined Knights of the Round Table. He combined his artistic talent and faith by creating scripture cards and journey cards.


A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at Arizona Community Church, located at 9325 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ 85284.


In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Phoenix Rescue Mission.

  

Dr. Daniel Bauer will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
